Beaverdam District Decides The Future Of Rural Living In Hanover
Why Rob Monolo is the development candidate in Beaverdam District. OPINION
Rob Monolo owes his office to Emma Lee Mitchell, a developer/agent with a long history of managing candidate campaigns for various offices in Hanover. Emma Lee’s candidates rarely express interest in cultural issues, ideology, or Party politics. They are all connected in some way to development and growth, and I believe Monolo is a patsy for Mitchell’s upcoming development projects. I’ll share what I believe to be a reasonable means of forming my opinion, and you can decide for yourself.
Monolo is well known at this end of the county and is a decent family man who runs a small business and lives like most of us. That said, I am not the only one that thinks he is not up to the job. Monolo stated that his main qualification was “I was born here” at the American Legion Hall primary forum a year ago. I point this out not merely on the absurdity of such a gross use of a genetic fallacy but that it was the only thing he managed to utter without stammering or having to “circle back to you on that.” He believes it, as do a lot of his supporters.
Lest you think I exaggerate his inability to express himself in a manner as necessitated by holding political office, Rob had a recent ‘forum’ in Doswell at the Ruritan. He read his ‘welcome to my meeting’ greeting off a 3 x 5 card, and Emma Lee ran the meeting for him. Emma also runs private meetings with concerned citizens while Rob sits quietly. I know this because folks who told me arranged to meet Monolo and discovered the appointment was with Emma Lee, the defacto supervisor. If he can’t express himself, how is going to express the desires of his constituents on the contentious issues facing the BOS? If you don’t know who your supervisor is how can you be sure you are represented?
Emma Lee is Beaverdam’s defacto Supervisor, and none of us had an opportunity to vote for or against her. Emma Lee is a political fixer with a long record of managing campaigns for growth-friendly or apathetic candidates. Tripp Chalkley (and now his replacement), Bucky Stanley, and Wayne Hazzard quickly come to mind.
Emma got Monolo elected and picked a School Board appointee for him to replace John Axelle. Robbie’s prime directive- I was born here- mysteriously disappeared under its exclusive rock. Emma Lee picked an unknown newcomer rather than a ‘born-here’ or even a known and qualified resident of Hanover. Why would she do that, especially when someone of former Beaverdam Elementary Principle Denny Waldrop’s unimpeachable character and experience was willing to step up to the formidable job?

The newcomer lives on the other side of the district, and candidate and Mortgage banker Doug Schuhle commented, in the Facebook group Beaverdam Residents, that it was for politics of using him to bring votes out on that side of the district. An interesting observation coming from a man many believe is in the race to split the vote to keep Monolo in office.

Cultural Marxism is overrunning our schools, and neither Emma -Lee nor her pet poodle seem to care. Monolo wouldn’t speak to these issues during his first run. So what do they care about? There were over 200 comments on the thread the screenshots above were taken from and the only candidate that didn’t comment was Rob Monolo! A few of his trolls attempted to deflect Monolo’s ignoring his own prime directive- to be born here in order to hold office, and pointed to a poorly attended event where the other bizarre genetic fallacy manifested- You must be young and have kids in the schools to be a School Board appointee!
What if we took this same fallacy and inserted other issues? You must be elected to comment on politics, or you must be a woman to speak on abortion, or you must work in a gun factory to own a gun? How about the absurd idea that younger people possess greater wisdom than those who have lived much longer? Would you take driving lessons from a 7-year-old, allow a 20-year-old to perform brain surgery on you, or allow your kid to dictate that his or her biology is changeable (some of you certainly would and Rob is hiding on that issue)?
Again, what do they care about?
Emma Lee (Davenport) Mitchell has an extensive history of being at the forefront of development in the county. It has nothing to do at all with being born here or not. I believe this information is essential to forming an opinion for the future of Hanover as past performance is an indicator of future expectations.
Here is a sample of Emma Lee Mitchell’s projects and influence on the development of rural Hanover:
Monolo tells people he is not beholden to Mitchell. But my opinion, supported by her past activity and his inability to function on his own, is that Mitchell has never endorsed a candidate or managed a campaign she couldn’t influence and this is no exception. Monolo would not be in office without her political insight and hard work. The idea he isn’t beholden is silly to me. I can’t help but admire her determination and skill, but the reward of all that effort isn’t for you or me, and it won’t stop the loss of the rural nature of Beaverdam District or keep the grooming books out of the new library or schools.

Monolo has declined to come to an upcoming event about growth because he says he has to wave the magic wand over his out-of-county School Board appointee. No doubt in my mind that he has valid motives to avoid questions about his umbilical cord to Developer Mitchell but it isn’t a ceremony over at the courthouse.
Let me say in closing- I am not anti-real estate sales or development if it is what we all want, what I do not like is one side of the equation having undue influence over the decision-making process. The Molono Mitchell team ain’t the only player in this control and cash-in game.
There is one way for Monolo to show us all he is his own man and that is to publicly pledge he will recuse himself from any and all of Emma Lee’s real estate or development projects that come before the board. I am betting she’ll drop him like a hot rock if he did.
Up next: I will show you the connections of two other candidates running in Hanover for Supervisor to developers named in the email sent to me anonymously that shows that all these players communicate behind the scenes. If unbridled growth is what you want- then don’t worry about this information.
