Observations On The 10th District Republican Senate Primary Convention
Crybaby Congressman Convinces Constituents Of Capricious Carping.
First of all, welcome to Substack where I will post my latest musings and ‘mean tweets’ about politics and culture, seasoned with satire and humor and an occasional theological insight. I intend to hit all in this one.
Hanover Conservative Caucus Blog will continue on Google Blogger but originate here as the “Five and Dime” to reflect the blog’s increasing reach throughout the 5th Congressional and 10th Senate Districts. I owe this success to my ghost writer- Orange Cat Bad, whom you can see in my profile pic. He is just brutal on vermin.
HCC will become archival. In the meantime, I’ll post here with links there as well. Please subscribe for my latest scuttlebutt and humorous portrayals of the political class in memes and graphics. Political news often sours the stomach so a few laughs along the way help the digestion. Some ribbing can reveal whether a Pol has a tough hide or is a thin-skinned whimp and unsuited for the job. If they can’t take it from their own side, how can we expect them to deal with the opposition? Thanks for the many encouraging sentiments and compliments at convention and hope you subscribe to Five & Dime. The following comments are my opinions and speculations on the body politic in the ‘Five & Dime.’
THE BIG SHOW.
Yesterday was the 10th District Republican Senate Primary held in Buckingham Co. It was well attended and many of you that follow the HCC blog were there and saw the unfolding of some circus and political theater.
Conventions are generally a cesspool of corrupteaucrats and hired hacks working to manipulate the system and thwart us, we the people, for filthy lucre. Fortunately, this favorite marketplace of influence peddling is passing into memory and this one was a great send-off. Not only for the last convention but for the shenanigans that are reason to say farewell. Lest I mislead you, let me be clear that in many ways this was one of the best run Conventions I have ever attended and with the best outcome. While there were a few snags and delays, the Convention staff were professional, fair, and seemingly prepared for shenanigans.
DELE-GATED
I signed up to be a delegate for John McGuire and it’s no secret I supported him through this campaign and on the HCC blog. I did not know John before this primary cycle but was and am impressed by his long service to our Country, his sincerity, his ability as a legislator, his ability to unite people, his persevering work ethic, his desire to live out his faith, love of family, and unflinching dedication to conservative principles in both word and deed.
Pre-convention shenanigans? I signed up to be a delegate not once but three times at various campaign events and somehow, mysteriously, all three applications disappeared from the local unit here in Hanover. The last application was filled out at the Unit meeting. My opinion of our Committee Chair, Mr. Dyer, was unsuited to run for the Senate seat and explained why in my usual direct and spicy manner. Was a little reprisal in play? Certainly, an application could be misplaced but three? No matter, the loss actually opened up a greater opportunity for me- that of being an observer and having first-hand experience of how the tabulation process works and it was fascinating. It also alllowed me to meet many of you who read this blog. More on that in a bit.
TO THE FLOOR. I won’t attempt a full blow-by-blow account but hit some of the things I saw as having an impact on the outcome.
CHAIR-ITY.
The first order of business was electing a Convention Chairman and this set the tone for the rest of the convention. The Adams and Dyer Campaigns pitched for Rick Boyer Jr. who appears to be heavily involved in the Tim Griffin scandal which you can read on the NATIONAL FILE. You might recall Bob Good supported Griffin at various events in the 53rd. The Boyers are said to have been behind Bob Good’s run against Denver Riggleman. This political circle includes paid political mercenaries Diana and Chris Shores, otherwise known as Bonnie and Clyde. Interesting that they would choose Mr. Boyer to chair this event while the crap is literally hitting the fan with their other pal- Mr. Griffin.
The McGuire Campaign rooted for Kirby Birch. The process of calling for a voice count of yeas and nays on each chair candidate produced the usual confusion but once understood the assembly overwhelmingly choose Birch. Needless to say, Delegate McGuire’s hard work was already beginning to pay off. The proceeding roar for McGuire’s choice of chair hinted at the final outcome of the Convention.
THE SPEECHIFYIN’
Opened by Buddy Bishop in charge of the balloting process who introduced himself as “ I self-identify as Buddy Bishop” and “my pronouns are- up yours!” I like this guy.
You can’t have politics without speeches and there were some doozy’s at this convention.
ADAMS
Up first was Adams who deferred half his time to Congressman Bob Good. Bob did his best to give a repeat version of his fiery Convention speech months ago but it fizzled. He validated the previous blogs (see below) that he is a petty and vindictive crybaby and went into his “Johnny was going to primary me” routine. He also made what struck some of us as a Freudian slip by alluding to a unity between the three candidates running against McGuire- shenanigans for a second-round delegate pile on? From there he went on about Adam’s significant conservative credentials of which little evidence was offered. He got catcalls and boos. He proclaimed Duane never raised taxes but this blog has already demonstrated he had. Not much help for Adams here especially given the indication in the opening skirmish for the chairmanship. Good regurgitated the ‘ladder climbing, professional politician, ERA’ talking point Bonnie and Clyde-type nonsense, and continued with some blah, blah, blah. If the Chair vote wasn’t enough, it was now obvious Good’s little senate primary play was in trouble. Good left the Convention with his tail tucked- more on that unfortunate, impetuous, and selfish act later.
Adams finished up the time by thanking the delegates speaking to wokeness in the culture, child mutilation, the defense of parental control, invoking Northam and the Democrat’s State Senate majority and their church and synagogue closings while they kept ABC stores open (a good point). Pointed to his record as responsible for resource officers in Louisa schools and dropping conceal carry fees. He spoke to the country’s loss of its moral compass (given who both he and Bob hired to fix their campaigns this is quite obvious). He promised only three terms if he won.
BRINDLEY
Brindley also divided her time with Vicki Hurt, a member of the Powhatan School Board and both spoke to the peril of the state of public education and her qualifications as the only educator in the running. She mentioned unfunded mandates, restrictive legislation, the attack on objective values, and indoctrination in public schools. I had no disagreements with anything she said, especially her reiterating that “boys are boys and girls are girls.” Education alone, IMO, is not the only important issue and one best suited for a committee than the senate seat itself. I believe the Governor would do well to utilize her expertise, energy, and commitment to the reform of public education.
DYER
Dyer also divided his time and had his son Jackson speak on his behalf saying he appreciated all his father had done for him and expressed his admiration, and that Jack presented a chance for change. His father knew struggle and wasn’t a career politician and that ‘he says what he means and means what he says.’ Like his father, Jackson attempted to flip the script on the strengths of the front runners- Adams and McGuire for having endorsements- especially McGuire who had over 70.
Jack continued this strategy to minimalize whatever strength his opponents had that he didn’t possess- focusing on McGuire’s many endorsements, legislative accomplishments, and presumably on Adams’s voting record as well. He emphasized his experience as a contractor and businessman, lobbying for issues important to builders/developers with the State Contracting Board, and “someone needed to stand up.” He spoke about recovering “lost ground” but by his own admission, he spent his life building his business up to take care of his own family. He coached and invoked church but to my knowledge has never attended one. He went on about empty slogans but he himself was sloganeering- just against the objective qualifications that he didn’t possess. He attempted to play this lack of political wherewithal as “grassroots.”
The problem here of course is that when you have to claim to be grassroots it’s a good indicator that one isn’t grassroots.
Jack who is chairman of the Hanover unit, had almost no support outside of Hanover and much of that only from unit committee members. Jack refused to step down from chair while running his campaign- an issue many saw as a conflict of interest- playing the insider while portraying himself as an outsider.
Jack has improved a little in his delivery though, I thought he got the best one-liner of the event when he quipped what a great day it was as ‘Hallelujah! today is the end of the relentless endorsement alerts… ’ Had we all been there for The 10th District’s Got Talent audition he would have moved on up. Pretty much everybody agreed on that.
MCGUIRE
Senator Amanda Chase stood up for McGuire and went on the attack (who would expect anything less?) She pointed out that John McGuire “has the record and walks the walk” and that we could all “count on JM to vote conservative.” “John McGuire voted against the ERA.” She added “Voting Records Matter!" and that only John McGuire stood with her to protest the election fraud of the 2020 cycle.
McGuire took the podium and directly went on offense. Clearly, he had had enough of the Adams and Good lies about his character and the attempts by Dyer to dilute the importance of his legislative effectiveness (while running to be a legislator). John called them out for calling him a “coward” and asked all the Veterans in the Convention to raise their hands and appealed to them if they thought it appropriate that a Veteran and SEAL who served 10 years in many dangerous places in the world should be called a coward. Their response should be obvious. It should also be said that neither Good nor Adams served in the military. The irony is palpable. John continued by stating he trusted in his faith in and reliance on God. John got the crowd roaring by having them proclaim “WE THE PEOPLE!” The reaction to his remarks was overwhelmingly positive.
THE SAUSAGE MAKING.
The speeches were over and it was time to vote. Given the excellent job done by the Convention staff there were few issues with credentials and the typical stalling ploys and other maneuvers generally didn’t manifest due to the Chair vote. I happened to overhear one of the organizers making a comment that they hadn’t relied on certain rules that were carry-overs from past conventions. This likely made it difficult for the hirelings that were busy looking to exploit whatever procedural opportunities that might arise.
The tables I observed where delegates received their wristbands and later when the ballots were given in exchange for the wristband, went smoothly for the most part. The tabulation process was slow- a lot of waiting for the count to begin but when it began it went smoothly as well. The numbers were as stunning and revealing as the faces of my favorite paid hirelings. Game over. There would be no second round and the plan to combine Adams and Dyer delegates; remember the tip-offs of Good’s referring to the 3 campaigns implying their solidarity and their combined effort to elect Boyer as Chair, wasn’t going to manifest.
It was time to go tell it on the convention floor.
THE RECKONING.
Many delegates had guessed what the outcome would be by the signs shown earlier in the event. If there were to be a second round, it would likely have taken less time to finish up in the tabulation room and the ballot boxes didn’t reappear. Somebody won, they were double-checking. The big reveal came from Buddy Bishop whose presentation was tempered and charitable giving an opportunity for the losers to save some face and more importantly, it was time to join forces and look towards defending the District from the Leftist onslaught coming in November.
I have pointed out a lot of Duane Adams's faults and now it is time to point out his strength. As the runner-up, he took the podium and congratulated John McGuire, called for unity, and did it manfully. Dyer’s remarks seemed mostly about himself and his experiences with running a campaign that had no legs. I saw the numbers. I know what the delegate count looked like in Hanover. The line that he had a shot to win was a setup to get his delegates to the convention for the second round. John trounced him in Hanover and that is likely why Jack refused to publish the numbers here. Duane’s numbers in Hanover were low single digits. The Chair didn’t mention the exact counts for the sake of salt and open wounds.
THE VICTOR
The supporters of the losing campaigns started to file out and in the distraction, the Chair had a brain fart and called for a motion to close the convention forgetting to let John McGuire make his acceptance speech while John looked patiently on but quickly corrected the oversight. A light moment in a long day that got some laughs.
John McGuire accepted the victory, thanked the convention delegates and his staff, and thanked his family and was sure to “give all the glory to God.” He thanked his team and family and invited all the kids below 20 to come up to the stage area and be recognized regardless of which campaign they had come with because they are the future of the Party and they did go up! A lesson here to remember- never underestimate this guy. Nobody works harder or more earnestly. John is going to make an outstanding senator and maybe someday something more. We have a lot of chaff in the Party but in McGuire we have true wheat. So many politicians say the words and get elected and become a burden on liberty. I believe this man will break that mold. And speaking of burdensome chaff…
THE LOSER.
The real loser here? It’s not the candidates that came up short. The real loser here is Bob Good. Bob could not control his anger and apparent jealousy of John McGuire’s accomplishments and service. Bob detests anyone that supports McGuire including his base. He turned away from several people I know that approached him there that happened to have McGuire stickers. He’s done much the same here in Hanover with party dignitaries after being advised that McGuire is popular here.
Bob has a big character flaw. Bob holds petty vendettas and grudges. Bob can’t let go and move on. Bob publically claims to be born-again but feeds this consuming anger for McGuire for what amounted to McGuire’s fleeting consideration of a run in the 5th, just as many elected servants were doing because the districts were all up in the air from gerrymandering by Democrat judges. Bob’s anger is his false idol. Bob has foolishly played a minority of his base against the majority and lost. No reasonable person would do this. Congressmen do not do primary endorsements in their districts for this very reason, they wait until the We The People choose or somebody drops out and then endorse the winner and make the call for Party unity. Duane called for Party unity. The Convention Chair called for unity. John called for unity. Bob slithered away.
Bob didn’t even stay for the count. He walked out on Adams and his supporters. He walked out on McGuire because he couldn’t drive a wedge between this Veteran and those who recognize John’s formidable accomplishments. Bob walked out on you and me.
Bob is a self-serving crybaby who spent his time running a State level primary campaign when he should have been in DC doing what he was sent there to do- represent “WE THE PEOPLE” that he walked out on.
Bob is not a unifier he is a divider. Bob is all talk and no walk, he can’t get a bill out of committee in Congress. Bob acts as if he owns the seat but he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. Is this why Bob can’t move on?
Bob is on team Cucennelli and the little birdie on the window sill tells me he plans on endorsing Ron DeSantis this week. In fact, all team Good, including Duane, the Shores, the Boyers, and Graven Craig are anti-Trumpers from way back at the 2019 primary convention and this seems to be the connecting thread between Bob and the Louisa Politician wannabes- they see DeSantis as a set of coat tails.
Louisa is Trump Country. Louisa needs to clean house.
AFTERBURN.
The Convention has gone the way of the Dodo and hopefully so too have the hirelings that work to thwart the will of “WE THE PEOPLE” through whatever manipulation can be applied. What a great final send-off for the convention that the people were not confounded and defeated by rule-mongering loophole weasels. The actual good guys won, and the Good guys lost.
McGuire friends and delegates gathered later at Theresa’s Restaurant in Buckingham for some right good home-style cooking and fellowship. Del. McGuire showed up and thanked everyone and invited all to join him in a round of God Bless America. The whole place rose up and sang together! A fine finish for a patriot’s hard work.
Don’t be surprised if someone fulfills that insecurity of Bob’s and primaries him. More to come on the 53rd spectacle and the players there grooming candidates and apparently young girls.
Also coming up: The Sheriff’s race and Louisa Republican Committee Chair Robin Horne- a blowhard gets some blowback.

I lost interest in Simon Says 60 years ago.
Two points here with Lenny’s little fit.
1) notably, he offers no substance. If McGuire voted for ERA he could give us the vote data from the Legislature’s website. Its easy to look these things up. The reason Lenny can’t is because it never happened. All 8 times ERA came up JM voted it down.
As to point 2) Bob Good’s election to a legislative office and subsequent failure to legislate: Lenny believes legislation has nothing to do with legislators. He thinks they are there to ‘protect us from government” but they are the government and the only way they have to ‘protect’ anyone is through legislation or counter-legislation. A legislator who can’t legislate is protecting no one and therefore impotent and actually a liability to our side.
As to the length of the convention- here I can sympathize with poor Lenny. When one is on the wrong side and sees his campaign has no legs and the very first vote is overwhelmingly lost time begins to stand still. Then, when McGuire wins with an unprecedented margin of victory and there is a lot of double-checking in the tabulation room takes time. A “1000 x” ? It must have been agonizing. For me it was great.

You literally did nothing but lie. The convention was made 1000 times longer by the guy McGuire picked. Also, Bob Good was not elected to “pass bills”, he was elected to protect us from big government. Which he has been doing.
The fact that you, John Dixon, are fully fooled by an incredibly obvious charlatan like John McGuire, a dude who couldn’t even keep his “lucky backpack” on during the whole convention and who voted for the ERA so he could vote against it, shows what a fool you are.
Also, the reason you hate conventions is because it forces candidates to tell the people what your actual policies are. That’s why John didn’t speak about them: he doesn’t have any because he’s a sleazy hack who had to bus in all his friends from out of town to vote for him to win.
You have done nothing but lie about everyone who isn’t John McLiar and show yourself to be a know nothing buffoon and straight up idiot. If I were related to you, I would quietly pretend you never existed to cover up my shame. You are the modern day Nabal, and I pray you repent.
