The Last Big Lie: "If It Ain't Broke...'
A Fixed System NO'fers Break The Truth To Preserve. OPINION
Hanover County is one of two counties left in the State, preserving the Democrat carry-over of appointing School Boards by political patronage/crony system before Frank Hargrove flipped the county to the GOP. The current Party leadership has taken the local unit well beyond its mission and is attempting to overwhelm people with falsehoods to gain a fear-based decision on the referendum.
At every point, the ‘No to Parents’ for the school board side has pushed fear-based distortions and lies, but those lies have fallen one by one as people check them out: the tax authority scare, the method of seating/SOL equivalency, ‘only democrats want accountability through a vote, etc., etc.
Having been called out on all these distortions, the only thing left is a flimsy subjective slogan: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is about as bad as it gets for educated adults to allow themselves to be swayed by an emotive, feel-good one-liner that is not only sophomoric but also pure BS. Here is why.
This slogan came to the NO side after attempting to sway a mom running for the school board in an adjacent county of the talking points mentioned, but she didn’t buy the distortions or fear tactics and said so. She was asked what she thought might work, and she said in so many words: ‘If you have no points easily refuted, why not just say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and the No’fers slogan was born! I know because she told me who, where, and when. They have run out of lies and painted themselves into the corner of subjective sloganeering. It is an act of desperation. It’s also hiding the real motivation, which is not about the kid’s education- more on that soon.
So, is it broken or ‘fixed?’
I have written (Hanover Conservative Caucus blog) on the appointee’s record over the years because some of us think those spending 40% of the county budget should be held accountable to those who write the checks they spend. Paying occasional attention to SB issues gives ammo to shoot holes in the “it ain’t broke” myth. It is no different than all the other distortions.
This issue is not new. As early as 2014, I’ve blogged in support of elections- to bring accountability where there is none. There was an attempt before that. Polling the consent of the governed is fundamental to the principle of small governance. It is a positive approach- seeking to deliver power away from a few to many. Our model of federalism is based on dividing power. This is the soul of the Republic.
The No side counts on ignorance when they can’t successfully employ fear. The underlying assumption is we are too stupid or reckless and, therefore, should be prevented at all costs from being involved. It smells a little of Jim Crow. We are not to be trusted with a vote and thereby reduced to the standing of a subject rather than a citizen. Their whole message is negative, fearful, selfish, and short-sighted.

The teacher bases test scores upon using Woke Pronouns- she scratches out the student’s ‘him/her’ and writes in “them/they!” The No side says this comes with elections, but here it is! (The parents permitted me to post this.)
Appointees allow data harvesting of student information by a sinister group in Utah without notifying parents. There is a lot of money involved.

The No side claims the Patronage School Board appointees saved Hanover by getting kids back to school during the China Virus scare, but what is their record on protected kids? The former superintendent, another liberal hired by the appointed “Republican” School Board, hid the presence of 100 unvaccinated alien children placed in Hanover schools from parents- exposing their kids to whooping cough and measles, among other diseases, when these diseases were reintroduced into the country by Obama’s border policies.

Canova, the Clown who appoints a School Board seat, has such great judgment as to preclude your right to vote and attempts a racist joke with NAACP people. It goes over like a lead balloon and embarrasses the County regionally- An old southern racist dude who holds on to the patronage crony system of appointees makes racist remarks, so all Hanoverarians are portrayed as racist!

These are a few examples of the poor judgment of the appointed School Board and the supervisors who appointed them. The NO side asks you to believe these people are mysteriously endowed with superior wisdom by being appointed under this antiquated patronage crony system. This system has allowed all the things the NO side fearmongers elections will bring. It’s devious, it’s disingenuous, it’s insulting, and it is designed to separate you from your right and duty to self-govern.
What a horrible message being sent to parents about the Republican Party! We alienate the very demographic we say we want to join our party by blaming them for what has already been established. Guilt trips do not work. The No side is mimicking everything the Left does to nudge people through fear.
If this were about education, there would be no need to misrepresent the issue. All of society benefits from a sound public school system, but the Left has already commandeered the curriculum for its own agenda, and that leaves me wondering if the real motivation to keep the patronage system is money and contracts. We wouldn’t be the only county in the district where contracts are selectively awarded. I’ll explore that later with some actual examples.
