Bob Good’s Backyard Base Building Goes Bust.
The 5th District has yet to benefit from Good's term. It is all about job security. OPINION
Bob Good has been a disappointment to many in the 5th District. He won his seat in large part through the endorsement of Donald Trump. His betrayal of endorsing Ron DeSantis on the day Democrats indicted Trump was an unmistakable nod to the Never Trump crowd from which Good takes his marching orders. This action has rubbed a raw nerve in the 5th District as it is mostly MAGA.
Good is 4th from the bottom of absentee congressmen. What does he do with all his time? He works with his Never Trumper advisors to take over County Republican Units to line up delegates and allies. Why? When you build a political machine to preserve your seat and paycheck, you need delegates for nominating conventions, and you work to seat them and get allies elected. Bob is fiddling while the country burns.
So here is how Political pikers go about empire-building, most of the time.
On Tuesday, Dec. 19th, Senate District 9 held a mass meeting to nominate a Republican candidate to fill Frank Ruff’s (formally the 15th Senator before redistricting) seat. Ruff resigned shortly after being re-elected and was undergoing cancer treatment.
Six candidates threw their hats in, and four rounds of voting ensued. Bob Good had his candidate Dale Sturdifen lined up for the win. Sturdifen works for Bob as a Field Director. Never Trumpers Diana and Chris Shores, who run Good’s campaign machine, activated all of Bob's social media to tell them who Bob’s endorsement was and offer to drive them to the mass meeting. Rick Boyer, a local Never Trumper figure, RPV activist, and lawyer, was working the crowd hard. Several other of Bob’s Never Trump pals, including Melvin Adams, the previous 5th District Committee Chair, his wife Sandy, who works for Bob, and Martha Munes, the Amelia Republican committee chair, were in attendance. 833 Republicans registered to vote at the meeting, but many left as the night dragged on through the four rounds of voting. Results of the last vote were announced at 12:30 AM: Mulchi had 278 and Bob’s boy Sturdifen 226.
All the manipulation was useless, as Dale Sturdifen finished second place. Oh darn, Bob’s big boy went bust. Team Never-Trump never won a single round!
Tammy Mulchi won this primary handily and was the top vote-getter in all four rounds of voting despite Bob’s Never Trumper gang manipulations towards thwarting the people's will. Ruff endorsed Mulchi as she served on the Clarksville Town Council and was Ruff's Legislative Assistant for 14 years. She knows how to get the job done (unlike Bob) and is ready to hit the ground running. All of Bob’s paid mercenaries, like the Shores and his weird Dominionist supporters, couldn’t put poor Dale back together again.
Retiring Delegate James Edmunds, who voted with Democrats a lot, took 3rd place. Delegate Tommy Wright's Legislative Aide, Kade Gravitt, was 4th. Gravitt is a hardworking, good, and decent guy like his boss. Lee Vogler, a Danville City Council member, took 5th place, and Pastor Andy Ferguson, a businessman Rick Boyer, and the Shores installed as the Halifax Republican committee chair.
The Shores worked hard to get Sturdifen the nomination. They failed, adding another loss to their long list of losing campaigns, and, in the process, exposed their meal ticket, Congressman Bob Good, as weak in his backyard. It’s the kind of signal Navy men glass for when seeking a target to shell.
If Sturdifen had won, Bob would have controlled a State Senator. Bob hasn’t had much luck with State Senators recently. Team Backstab only controls one other legislator, Eric Zehr, who was newly elected to House District 51. This is because all their hand-picked candidates lost their several races last spring. I’ll outline this in an upcoming post.
Boyer and Bob are tangled up with the disgrace of Tim Griffin, newly elected house district 53, who has no fixed address and, according to public court documents, owes his wife and children over $30,000 in child support and healthcare. He was on probation until the end of 2023 for harassing wildlife in Assateague Island #ponygate. See The Griffin Files.
THE TAKEAWAY-
If Sturdifen had won, it would have raised the hopes of Team Bob to win this spring's Republican nomination contest with Senator John McGuire, whether it be a convention or primary. But Sturdifen’s loss demonstrates Backstabbin’ Bob's endorsement carries little weight in the 5th District. Bob's team has less influence and control than they thought and could very well lose in the spring. With only a week's notice from when Ruff announced resigning to convening the Mass meeting, team Bob couldn’t pull off their much-needed display of power.
Sturdifen's web page is a professionally done site with a professional video. Expensive! It makes one wonder who footed the bill for all this. Somebody wanted this Senate seat badly.

A closer look at Good’s network, which has a weird blend of political mercenaries like “Bonnie and Clyde," whose record of winning is relatively poor, especially when they cannot control a convention, and the weird Theonomy/Dominionist churches in support of Good that have strange and novel doctrines guiding their political aspirations and impact how certain candidates are selected and act in Central Virginia.
In another upcoming post, Five and Dime will publish the results of ace investigative reporter Orange Cat Bad uncovering Bonnie and Clyde’s (Political consultants Chris and Diana Shore) record on getting their client’s wins.

Bob endorses Democrat. Bob loves Democrat Duane Adams, who ran against Hanover Republican Delegate Frank Hargrove. Will Adams seek the 10th District seat should Navy Seal John McGuire defeat Bob Good?
