Graven Craig is running for the 59th Delegate Seat in the Virginia Legislature. Democrat judges created this district in the gerrymandering process and upended Hanover's senior Delegate Buddy Fowler's seat. So who is Graven Craig? I'll answer that question with this and several follow-up posts.
Craig is an ally of Duane Adams, the supervisor from Louisa who lost his bid for the 10th District Senate Seat. Craig and Adams belong to what I will loosely describe as a cabal of Anti-Trumpers including Ken Cuccinelli, attorney Rick Boyers jr, whom the Adams and Dyer Campaign put up for the 10th District primary convention chair, and “No-Bills” Bob Good.
In the following posts, I will explain why I will not support Craig over Fowler. These reasons include why I do not believe this man supports the Constitution- primarily free speech and why his Second Amendment claim hinges on free speech. Tonight I'll focus on his Platform claim that he supports LEO and Public Safety. We need to examine each candidate's claims, especially when they are mere boilerplate talking points every piker and opportunist will recite for a buck.
Here is Craig's claim on Crime:
Law Enforcement and Public Safety
If there is one area of government where we are not spending enough, it is law enforcement. Just a few miles from the 59th District, Black Lives Matter activists destroyed parts of Richmond in their protests to defund the police in 2020. Right here in Virginia, we have radical Commonwealth Attorneys selected and elected by George Soros and his allies refusing to prosecute criminals. Public safety is one of the most important duties of government and a failure to protect and FUND the men and women that keep our communities and families safe is inexcusable. I will always support our law enforcement and have their backs just as they have ours.
On its face, it sounds pretty good. But it also sounds like the other political postcard filler I read dozens of times during every political cycle. You know what I am talking about- one can almost turn away and mouth the words.
So how do we know Graven Craig lives up to it? He's never voted on a bill so we can't check his record at the State Legislature. All I have to go on is the public record, so I started with his local newspaper, The Central Virginian.
I hit the jackpot.
Graven has a lot of very interesting clients. Clients that I am sure LEO would say are not much interested in public safety and endanger "the men and women that keep our communities safe." These are the same scum that liberal judges turn loose on communities all over the country, and you have seen the consequences in numerous reports.
Lets have a look:
Jason Karsten, convicted of raping a woman at Small Country Campground.
"All I can say is that I was panicked about being accused of rape," Karsten said of his initial denial.
Mike Harris, a private investigator hired by Karsten's attorneys, Graven Craig and Torrey Williams, said in court that the victim told him she had used the word "boundaries" with Karsten before the rape began.
Also, a local drug gang and robbery ring.
"Graven Craig, Hicks' attorney, said in court that his client lived on the house's first floor and was not involved in the drug dealing going on in the basement, though a small amount of meth was found in his pocket. There were 10 people living in the house, some of them renting space from Hicks."
Then we have Joseph Bell, convicted on seven counts of child porn distribution."
A predator is off the streets after he admitted to distributing child porn. From toddlers to teens, hundreds of boys and girls fell victim to 29-year-old Joseph L. Bell. He was convicted Monday in Louisa County.
From what locals in Louisa tell me, these cases were all very controversial and emotionally charged. I can see why. All these clients would likely support Lawyer Craig. Why wouldn't they?
I don't trust lawyers. The DC Swamp is full of lawyers as is the Virginia Statehouse. They get wealthy in office and we get nada. Lawyers are responsible for screwed-up politics to expiration dates on plastic hospital trays. The first thing Craig has on his website and in his talking points is how great a lawyer he is. He is proud of being first-rate among the second oldest profession in the world- right behind paid political convention fixers and candidates who hide their Democrat affiliation.
The other issue with Craig is this- why, when the State House is overwhelmed with Leftist agendas like Cultural Marxism, would I, or anyone else, risk letting go of a seasoned, experienced Legislator seated in crucial committees like Buddy Fowler for another lawyer who would have to start from scratch and handicap the conservative pushback? In the face of the Leftist legislative juggernaut, it doesn't make any sense to throw out a seasoned pro and go with an amateur and expect to come up ahead.
More to come; stand by.
There is a reason lawyer jokes are popular:
An attorney was working late one night in his office when, suddenly, Satan appeared before him. The Devil made him an offer. “I will make it so you win every case that you try for the rest of your life. Your clients will worship you, your colleagues will be in awe, and you will make enormous amounts of money. But, in return, you must give me your soul, your wife’s soul, the souls of your children, your parents, grandparents, and those of all the your friends.” The lawyer thought about it for a moment, then asked, “But what’s the catch?”
