Red Herrings Abound From Local Wannabe In Goochland On The Upcoming McGuire vs Good Primary
Opinion
Someone sent me a link to another blog on Substack reporting on the absence of Republican State Senator John McGuire of Goochland, 10th District, from a Committee meeting and his decision to challenge Bob Good (R-VA05) of the 5th Congressional District and his choice instead to attend Donald Trump’s campaign events in Iowa. It’s a big yawn, but I’ll dismantle it anyway.
The author, Mr. Jarvis, offers a quote from McGuire supporting Donald Trump in Iowa and turns to the issue of McGuire’s missing a committee. He then adds that both pieces of legislation are simply rescheduled for another day! Well, this is newsworthy!
He moves on to McGuire's scandalous taking of a “selfie”. Then he gives Jim Herring, Democrat Mark Herring’s brother, a political wannabe and Bob Good supporter, and current vice-chair of the Henrico Republican Party*, a platform to criticize McGuire for missing a committee meeting on a bill that automatically gets rescheduled for consideration!
*Correction: Herring is VC of the Goochland Unit. I knew that!
Herring is quoted: “First week on the job for my new State Senator and… he’s not there,” Herring said in a Facebook post. “Before his election was even certified, he announced he was running for another office. This past Saturday, he was absent from a 5th District Republican Committee meeting with leadership from all 24 localities he is running to represent!”
The writer then goes full obvious- “Herring, a Good supporter, acknowledged during a phone call that while Republicans are in the minority on Senate committees and cannot stop Democratic legislation from advancing, it still matters to have representation and a voice for the constituents.”
Herring responds: “It made a difference to me. I was not represented today during those votes,” Herring said. “We elect representatives; that's what our republic is about – representative government, and if you're not there, you're not representing us. I devote a lot of time to these candidates and these issues, and when they refuse to devote time to me. I take it personal.”
Did you notice it as well? The writer never questions Herring’s bias as a Good supporter and accepts his whining about attendance at face value! Why didn’t he ask, for instance, if attendance is required? Do other members choose to miss meetings? How many other Senators and Representatives missed this meeting or other meetings? He is strangely incurious. He didn’t ask the McGuire contact much either. Is Herring’s motive he wants support from Good in the future for some unnamed ambition to occupy an office?
Herring’s man Bob ‘no-bills’ Good misses meetings and votes as a matter of routine! Bob spends all his time back home with guys like Herring trying to drum up job insurance with meaningless and toothless resolutions condemning John McGuire and stacking Unit Committees with lackeys to cover his failure as a congressman to represent his constituents. Secondly, Herring’s syrupy devotion resulted in the loss of Senator Siobhan S. Dunnavant’s seat, and Henrico passed ever deeper from Red to Blue during his vice-chairship! Such devotion! It's funny that Henrico turns bluer during Herring’s watch and doesn’t enter the conversation.
The writer mentions a response from McGuire’s office, then raises the toothless resolutions passed by Bob’s Unit Committee lackeys that he spends all his time installing. Almost all of these people are Never-Trumpers. Jarvis never mentions how Hanover and other county units have overwhelmingly rejected Good’s gloomy band of pikers and their resolution. An attempt was fabricated by Hanover Chair Jack Dyer, which went over so bad he tried to distance himself from close friends who ran his failed Senate seat bid and seconded the motion against McGuire. With family members counted, the resolution made by Russ Wright, got less than a dozen votes. A committee member summarized the setup as being ‘so transparent that even Stevie Wonder could see through it!’
Had the writer checked around the District, he might have discovered that other Republican Units deemed Team Good’s resolution so “rife with multiple inaccuracies” to be slanderous and expose Units to possible lawsuits. Such as in Amherst’s Unit meeting with a notable local attorney present. They rejected the trash for what it was- a transparent attack on a man with abilities to shift focus away from a weak Congressman with no abilities.
The article continues with a comment about backlash over McGuire’s decision to challenge struggling Bob Good, who, according to sources in DC, has no friends on the Hill, and his peers think he is dull and creepy. Further points made are about “ambition and, again, representation.” It's funny how much ambition and self-serving memories are among the people attempting to gin up hatred over a Navy SEAL wanting to serve his country.
My Counter-Points:
Herring manufactures and frames problems, such as missing a committee meeting that has no bearing on the future of a bill. His boss, Bob Good, has never gotten a bill passed. Not one. He conveniently omits that every Republican County Unit in Virginia has local and State elected members who miss their meetings. He omits that attendance is not required for congressmen who regularly ignore meetings, like Bob. Team Bob calls McGuire a liar, but Herring lies by misrepresenting or omitting facts and context. For example, Bob is a liar; he said he would represent us in DC, but he can’t get a single bill passed to turn back the Leftist juggernaut!
The Good defense strategy is to direct attention to the challenger making allegations about his intentions because Bob’s two terms have produced no record to run on.
Those pushing the narrative of lies and ambition cloak their ambitions by projecting, and they all lie about politics when it suits them. Many lie for a living (they call them consultants).
Herring omits (lie by omission) the Governor, RPV, and local units like his, failed to deliver a majority in either Chamber, rendering McGuire and the rest of the Republican minority toothless. They can resolve a lot! But conservative bills won’t get passed. Like these bills which were shot down immediately:
Senator John McGuire: https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?241+sum+SB81
Senator Mark Peake: https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?241+sum+SB92
Herring is playing ‘air guitar.’
Herring never mentions that McGuire and not Good has a record of successfully sponsoring bills and getting them passed into law.
Herring never mentions that Bob Good’s sole resume point is the chairmanship of the House Freedom Caucus. Not because of Bob’s talent but because no one else wanted the job. He can’t land a chairmanship on a Committee in Congress because no one there respects him.
Here are some more points the author of the “Virginia Political Newsletter didn’t bother to point out as to why Senator McGuire is challenging Bob Good. These are from Bob’s report card on GovTrack.US
Committee Positions: Good held a leadership position on 0 committees and 0 subcommittees, as either a chair (majority party) or ranking member (minority party), at the end of the session.
Got bipartisan cosponsors on the fewest bills compared to Virginia Delegation.
Wrote the fewest laws compared to Virginia Delegation (tied with 1 other).
Got their bills out of committee the least often compared to Virginia Delegation (tied with 1 other).
Got bicameral support on the 2nd fewest bills compared to Virginia Delegation.
Was 4th most absent in votes compared to House Freshmen (tied with 1 other).
Bob hasn’t done Jack!
Bob Good hasn’t the drive or talent to do his job and compensates by meddling back home. His Never-Trumper pals are still banking on DJT being forced out of the primary through Democrat Lawfare, clearing the path for DeSantis.
Team Good never complains about Ron DeSantis running for higher office while elected to another. Nor mention DeSantis had his State Legislature overturn the law preventing him from so doing.
No other member of the House Freedom Caucus was dull enough to take a chance on having McCarthy’s retirement, and the consequence of a razor-thin majority hung around their necks. Good and Co’s lack of foresight created “chaos” and left Republicans in a bind threatened now by redistricting for specific seats. Having done such a splendid job with McCarthy, Bob no-bills’ Good now wants to unseat Speaker Johnson! Remember Good slobbering over Johnson just a few short weeks ago? Is he only capable of playing checkers in a chess game?
No wonder McGuire changed his mind. Who in their right mind would want a failure in Congress who doesn’t do anything or show up to represent his constituents, as Jim Herring says? It's funny how selective all his detractors are; they have no issue changing their minds about politics as the situation demands! BTW, Herring is said to have been run out of a local unit and therefore moved to Henrico to advance his ‘ambitions!’ That should be worth looking into.

Orange Cat Bad, I assessed the record of well-known central Virginia consultants Diana and Chris Shores, alias Bonnie and Clyde Strategies, LLC. Their name is self-descriptive; some even pawtray their work as a purramid scheme! Given their record is littered with losses, it is indeed purrr-plexing. !
Bob Good’s Backyard Base Building Goes Bust.
Bob Good has been a disappointment to many in the 5th District. He won his seat in large part through the endorsement of Donald Trump. His betrayal of endorsing Ron DeSantis on the day Democrats indicted Trump was an unmistakable nod to the Never Trump crowd from which Good takes his marching orders. This action has rubbed a raw nerve in the 5th Distric…
Another County With A Narcissist GOP Chair
Some good conservatives in Goochland brought the clip above to my attention. They think it is another example of an abusive Unit Chair, and I agree. I know people there, and I know John McGuire. One thing everyone knows about John McGuire is that he is accessible and responsive. When I read
