A Rock Solid Republican Party Girl!
Unike the other 2 top contenders, Gannon is not a PAC-gal or Drama Diva, not beholden to SOLAR and never ran as a Democrat.
It’s Wednesday, and with only one more full day before the Mass Meeting, I will cram a lot into this post: Jean Gannon’s bio, this blog’s support of her, and why Chase and Adams should be eliminated. Also, links to Adam’s most significant negatives and all the articles on this Special Election from The 5 & Dime are at the bottom.
Gannon’s website (www.votejeangannon.com) describes her long involvement in the Republican Party in broad, soft tones written to impress. Although short on timelines and detail, her participation in various Party committees, projects, and campaigns over many years is accurate.
Gannon has been married for 40 years and has both children and grandchildren. She’s a 24-year resident of Powhatan County. She has been successfully self-employed as a Real Estate appraiser for 35 years, served on Powhatan Counties Board of Equalization, and currently serves on the Virginia Real Estate Appraisal Board and was appointed by Governor Glen Youngkin to a Subcommittee charged with reducing government regulations by 25%. She joined the Powhatan Republican Committee in 2008 and served as its chairman for several years after doing all the hands-on work of a committed volunteer. That level of commitment propelled the Powhatan Republican Committee to sweep county elections.
She currently serves on the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee and represents the Virginia Federation of Republican Women (VFRW).
Gannon is the campaign manager for Del. Lee Ware and has been for over a decade (House District 72 includes Amelia, Nottoway, and Powhatan counties and part of Chesterfield).
Jean is a strong supporter of both Trump and John McGuire.
Although this is her first time running for public office, Gannon has run for higher-level party offices. This past June, Gannon lost her second bid to become the Republican Party of Virginia’s National Committeewoman, which entails a seat of the Republican National Committee.
Gannon gets positive reviews from people who know her. We heard a few say Gannon is not above playing a bit dirty in party politics. That opinion depends on which side of the situation one is on. Does she like playing politics, or has she just had to deal with the snakes and weasels attracted to the Republican Party? This we can say about Jean:
Unlike Amanda Chase, Gannon is not a drama diva or a bridge burner.
Unlike Duane Adams, Gannon says she is interested in hearing the opinions and needs of her future constituents and will act on them.
Gannon, who has worked for election integrity, doesn’t hire CONsultants to manipulate Convention and Mass Meeting votes or court big-money special interests.
Unlike Adams, who loves Solar Plants, Gannon will work to stop them and preserve agricultural lands.
Gannon knows many of the “who’s who” of VIPs and how the legislature and parties operate. She has also helped legislators work two bills through the General Assembly for signature by governors Northam and Youngkin. Nevertheless, the most essential skill of a State Senator is knowing how to work with people, even those you disagree with, to achieve the best outcomes on issues important to your constituents. 5 & Dime believes Gannon will work for the people’s priorities, rather than use the office for self-promotion.
Gannon was the ONLY candidate to identify serving constituents as a priority at the candidate “Great Debate” on November 22nd.
Gannon said she was open to hearing from constituents on what they would like to see legislation-wise. “My main focus for this would be constituent services here in the 10th.” “I’m here for that change, I want to make it and keep it and serve the constituency.”
Gannon gets “points” for saying constituents’ views are important to her.
Contrast with Adams saying he doesn’t care to hear from constituents.
Gannon’s opinions appear conservative on the usual issues. She is pro-life, “right-to-work”, border and immigration, and the importance of tackling budget and spending problems, etc., including codifying illegal immigration, of which Virginia Law is silent. In other words, LEO has little power to assist in deportations without supporting State Laws, leaving it as a Federal issue.
Gannon’s response to school choice was much more substantial than the other candidates. Her answer shows a considerable understanding of how Virginia administers education and an appreciation of the challenges ahead.
Below is Gannon’s full answer, copied from the Farmville Herald article (12/9/2024).
“Jean Gannon: I’m very much in favor of school choice, and there are three components to this issue. The first one is that public schools are the center and the core of our communities, especially here in the 10th. We already have alternatives. We have private and parochial schools and we have homeschooling. Our current administration has set up tax credits for these alternatives. We have seven private, parochial schools right here in Senate 10 District. Scholarships are available for students whose family income does not exceed 300% of the federal poverty guidelines and up to 400% of family income for students with disabilities.’
These tax credits are critical. One thing we need to be keenly aware of, though, is President Trump’s appointments and the efforts of those appointments and how they affect the states. There’s a proposal to eliminate the federal Department of Education, with specific categories of students with special needs to be classified under other federal agencies. This will bring a renewed responsibility to the General Assembly. And if you remember, and some of us are old enough to remember this, back in the late 70s, Jimmy Carter created the Department of Education. Back then, our level of education was up there. Today, our level of education is down here. So I’m fully in favor of abolishing the department of education on a federal level and bringing responsibility down to the states. We’re ready to move ahead. Let’s bring education back to its expected standard.”
Gannon has the full support of 5 & Dime.
She’s rock solid and stable professionally and personally- the opposite of Chase. She’s rock solid because she has never told taxpayers or other Republicans that she doesn’t care what they want or say- that she will do as she pleases, as Duane Adams has told his constituents. Unlike Adams, Gannon isn’t looking for big money from out-of-state developers or Democrats who run Dominion Power and she will lead the effort to stop Democrats from taking away Counties ’ ability to block Solar Plants.

On this point, Adam’s is deeply compromised by huge runoff problems from Solar Plants in Louisa. Chase has made such a pariah of herself in the State Senate that she will never induce moderate Democrats to defect from their party line to block the passing of a “State Preemption of Local Authorities” bill imposing Solar Plants on rural counties. The reality is Republicans will be in the Minority and have to work with opponents to get anything done. Amanda “I throw bricks” Chase has burned any chance of cooperation long ago.
Jean Gannon is the only Candidate with the right mix of experience, stability, and desire to get the job done.

AMANDA CHASE: BAD FOR THE 10th DISTRICT?
I attended the Tea Party event in Beaverdam to hear what Amanda Chase had to say- mostly bravado and grandstanding for which she is known. Chase's various government and personal dramas have gotten my attention in the news, but media reports of her Senate and personal troubles are all I knew.

The usual suspects were working last week's 10th State Senate District Committee meeting to hijack the Special Election for Duane Adams by manipulating the time, date, and venue for Adam's advantage. Adams is in dire need of new supporters because he is unliked and unlikeable; for instance, telling Louisa County constituents to "reca…
